Prince William and Kate Middleton presented a united front at the Digger premiere despite another turbulent month for the Royal Family. Their polished red-carpet appearance came as fresh controversy surrounding King Charles, Princess Diana and Prince Harry continued to make headlines.
The Prince and Princess of Wales appeared all smiles as they joined Tom Cruise at the movie premiere. However, a body language expert pointed to subtle gestures that suggested William and Kate approached the evening differently.

According to the Daily Mail, body language expert Judi James examined the couple’s appearance. Kate wore a purple floor-length gown, while William opted for a velvet smoking jacket. James said Kate’s head position, open shoulders and broad smile projected resilience. She linked the Princess of Wales’ confidence to her return to royal duties after cancer treatment in 2024.
The expert also highlighted Kate’s purple amethyst heart necklace, which dated to 1923. The matching jewellery had previously been worn by Queen Camilla at the 2012 “Skyfall” premiere. William, meanwhile, appeared to show more tension through his hands. James noted that he clenched his fists while descending the stairs, suggesting his hand placement may reveal that he’s carrying the weight of his family’s troubles. He also placed a hand on his stomach, which she described as a potential subconscious self-soothing gesture.
Those observations came amid renewed family drama surrounding Earl Spencer’s book about Diana. The memoir revisited the circumstances surrounding the late princess and added another layer to the royal family’s ongoing tensions. The evening also brought a notable change in Kate’s interaction with Cruise. At the 2022 “Top Gun: Maverick” premiere, she had moved her clutch after Cruise helped her upstairs. That gesture had sparked speculation about whether royal protocol influenced the moment.
This time, Kate moved her clutch from her left hand to her right when Cruise offered assistance. He later lightly touched her elbow while guiding her down the steps. Kate appeared comfortable with the interaction and even glanced toward William before mirroring Cruise’s broad smile. She then waved to fans gathered outside.
William later placed a hand on Kate’s back as they walked inside together. The gesture was another affectionate moment to an evening where both appeared determined to keep family turmoil away from the spotlight.
