Sidney Starr has denied the child sex abuse allegations against her.
The Love & Hip Hop: New York star also said the case should not be viewed through stereotypes about the transgender community.
Sidney Starr Says the Child Sex Abuse Allegations Against Her Are False
In a statement to TMZ, the reality TV star said she “unequivocally denies the allegations against her and intends to vigorously defend herself through the legal process.” She added, “Allegations should not be mistaken for fact, and public opinion should never replace due process.”
Starr also said people should not view the case as a reflection of the transgender community. She stressed that one person’s alleged actions should not trigger judgments about an entire group. Starr thanked her supporters and asked for privacy as the case moves forward. She also confirmed that this would be her only public statement while the case is pending.
Police arrested Starr on Aug. 2 in Hapeville, Georgia. Authorities charged her with sexual battery against a child under 16, aggravated child molestation and sodomy. The charges stem from allegations involving a minor at an Embassy Suites hotel. A photo from the arrest shows Starr standing inside the hotel with her hands behind her back.
According to an arrest warrant cited by Atlanta News First, Starr allegedly admitted to performing oral sex on the minor and claimed the act was consensual. Starr has denied the allegations and said she intends to “vigorously defend” herself through the legal process. Starr’s mother, Stephanie Favors, also said the allegations were completely out of character for her daughter.
