Colman Domingo fired back at Elon Musk with a string of sharp jokes during his guest-hosting stint on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The actor mocked Musk’s latest promise to create an AI-generated version of The Odyssey after the billionaire criticized Christopher Nolan’s hit film for its diverse cast.
Domingo never held back. His monologue quickly became one of the night’s biggest talking points.
Colman Domingo joked about Elon Musk’s plan to create an AI version of Homer’s epic after criticizing Nolan’s adaptation
Elon Musk announced this week that Grok Imagine would produce a full-length version of The Odyssey. He promised a “historically accurate” adaptation that would stay “true to the art of Homer.” Musk also shared a three-minute AI-generated clip from the proposed project.
The announcement followed months of criticism aimed at Christopher Nolan’s film. Musk repeatedly attacked the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy. He claimed the movie ignored history because it featured non-white actors in key roles.
Domingo targeted that argument during his opening monologue. According to The Wrap, he joked Musk’s version would be “whiter than Christmas at Cracker Barrel.” He followed with another dig. “Of course, this is all because Elon and his Musketeers are upset over the diversity casting of The Odyssey,” he said.
Domingo then questioned the entire idea behind Musk’s project. “I don’t want to get technical here, but you can’t make a historically accurate version of something that is totally made the f—k up,” he joked, according to the publication.
He kept the audience laughing with another punchline. Domingo reminded viewers that The Odyssey belonged to mythology, not history. He then asked, “Doesn’t Elon Musk have better things to do? Wasn’t this bitch supposed to be on Mars by now?”
The criticism did not stop with Domingo. Variety reported that filmmaker Scott Derrickson also slammed Musk on X. He wrote that Musk “doesn’t know shit about cinema” and claimed the billionaire stopped reading in his twenties.
Meanwhile, Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its impressive box-office run. The film earned about $264 million worldwide during its opening weekend. Musk still says Grok Imagine will release its AI version before the end of 2026, but he has not revealed any production details.
TELL US – DO YOU THINK ELON MUSK’S AI VERSION OF THE ODYSSEY WILL EVER BECOME A REAL COMPETITOR TO CHRISTOPHER NOLAN’S FILM?
