Elon Musk Makes a $10.5 Billion Promise to America’s Children

Elon Musk is widely known as the owner of X and the world’s richest man. Now, the billionaire has announced a new initiative aimed at helping American children. His promise could be worth more than $10.5 billion.

Elon Musk promises SpaceX shares to every American child starting in 2027

Recently, the owner of X shared news on the social media platform that could win students’ hearts. Elon Musk has promised SpaceX shares to every American child, starting in 2027.

Musk wrote, “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many.”

However, Musk hasn’t clarified how he plans to distribute SpaceX shares to every American child. Still, the pledge represents only a tiny fraction of his vast wealth. Musk reportedly owns approximately 6.42 billion SpaceX shares, representing a 48.4% stake in the company. According to Bloomberg, his net worth currently stands at around $908 billion.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. population reached approximately 341.8 million in July 2025. Of those residents, 21.1% were under 18. That amounts to roughly 72.1 million children. If all 72 million children received one SpaceX share each, the total giveaway would be worth more than $10.5 billion at the current share price.

For context, this isn’t the first major donation made by the owner of X. He has previously donated billions of dollars to charitable causes. The 55-year-old has periodically donated company shares and cash, including through the Musk Foundation. In 2024, Musk donated $108 million worth of Tesla shares to various charities.

Musk also contributed $54 million toward developing carbon removal technology. In 2021, he donated between $50 million and $55 million to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through the Inspiration4 space mission.
