Michelle Gomez Takes on ‘Doctor Who’ Season 8

In just under two months, “Doctor Who” will return to BBC One and BBC America for the eighth season of the modern “Who” era. And there will be a new adversary for the Doctor in addition to some familiar enemies.
 
BBC has announced that Michelle Gomez will be appearing in the new season of “Doctor Who” as The Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere. “Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat said that “I’ve known Michelle for years, and I’m thrilled to welcome her to ‘Doctor Who.’ She’s everything we need – brilliant, Scottish, and a tiny bit satanic.”

Gomez is primarily known for her comedic roles in “The Book Group,” “Green Wing,” “Feel The Force,” “Bad Education” and The Wedding Video.  
 
The BBC has also released an onset picture of Gomez and Capaldi that gives away the return of a classic “Doctor Who” menace. Minor spoilers ahead!
 
 
 
As you can see, the Cybermen are making their first appearance on “Doctor Who” since Neil Gaiman’s season seven episode, “Nightmare in Silver.” 
 
Clara (Jenna Coleman) will also be back for her first full season as the Doctor’s companion, along with Danny Pink (Samuel Anderson), a friend of Clara’s who might be the latest addition to the crew of the TARDIS. Keeley Hawes, Tom Riley and Ben Miller are also slated to guest star in the upcoming season.
 
“Doctor Who” Season 8 will premiere on Saturday, August 23 on BBC One and BBC America.
