‘The View’ Alum Michelle Collins Calls the Show a ‘Minefield’ for a Reason

Michelle Collins has some complicated feelings about her time on The View. The former co-host says the daytime talk show can put its panelists in a vulnerable position. Collins spent one season at the Hot Topics table from 2015 to 2016. Years later, she still considers the job a “minefield.”

Collins reflected on the experience during a recent episode of The Bald and the Beautiful with Trixie and Katya, where she joined Trixie Mattel in place of Katya.

Early in the conversation, Mattel brought up old clips from Collins’ time on The View. Collins admitted she struggles to watch them.

“It’s a minefield,” she said.

Collins explained that the panelists regularly discuss controversial topics live and often have to react in the moment. As a result, she believes the format exposes hosts to intense public criticism.

“I have so much respect for every host who’s ever been on that show,” Collins added. She then called it “a dangerous show to be on.”

Collins also admitted she felt unprepared when the program began focusing more heavily on political discussions during her tenure. However, she now views the experience differently and remains grateful for the opportunities it created.

Her comments echo concerns other former co-hosts have raised about the format. Earlier this year, Sherri Shepherd discussed Jenny McCarthy’s difficult experience after The View shifted toward heavier political conversations. McCarthy previously made it clear that she had little interest in returning.

Collins has also spoken candidly about her own stint on the show before. She has acknowledged that it remains one of the biggest opportunities of her career, despite the pressure that came with it.

For Collins, the danger lies in the format itself. Hosts must share their opinions on sensitive subjects in real time, knowing that any comment could draw criticism long after the broadcast ends.
