Whoopi Goldberg Praises Historic Michigan Win as Donald Trump Enters Discussion

Midterm elections have become a major topic of discussion across the nation. Amid the ongoing reactions, Whoopi Goldberg has now weighed in with praise for Trump as the president enters the discussion.

Whoopi Goldberg talks to Abdul El-Sayed after Michigan election

According to AOL’s coverage, American actress gushed over newly elected Michigan Senator Abdul El-Sayed during his appearance on The View following his midterm election victory against Donald Trump’s Republican Party.

Whoopi Goldberg said, “This was one of this election… history was made on so many levels. But I think you’re going to go down as one of the biggest parts of that history, as the first Muslim ever to be in the US Senate.”

The host further praised El-Sayed for winning the election, saying that people had made “a whole lot” of his culture and background. She added that the Democratic leader “stood strong” despite the criticism and that “the people came out anyway.”

For context, during the conversation, Abdul El-Sayed also addressed the attacks he faced from critics. The discussion began when the comedian asked him, “How are you doing?”

Abdul said that critics, “weren’t attacking me, they were attacking the idea of an America big enough for me. I didn’t take a bet on my abilities or anything. I took a bet on the goodness of the people of Michigan.”

For context, Whoopi Goldberg has consistently been a vocal critic of Donald Trump. However, she has not always supported newly elected Michigan Democratic Senator Abdul El-Sayed. This marks the first time the 70-year-old has publicly praised Abdul so warmly on such a major national platform.

As for the midterm election results, Abdul El-Sayed defeated Republican candidate Mike Rogers in the 2026 U.S. Senate race in Michigan. He won by a margin of 334,802 votes, which translates to approximately 7 percentage points.
