Will Smith allegedly stood behind his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, after she threatened a former friend over a planned memoir. The claim appears in new court documents filed by Bilaal Salaam, who is suing Jada. Salaam says the exchange happened during a phone call in October 2021. He claims Will responded with words that showed clear support for his wife’s warning.
Bilaal Salaam claims Will Smith supported Jada Pinkett’s alleged threat over planned memoir
According to documents obtained by TMZ, Salaam says the call took place on or around October 5, 2021. He claims he spoke with Will and Jada, along with Will’s friend Charlie Mack, during that call. Salaam says Jada warned that she would have him killed if he continued with a memoir about his time with the Smith family. He says the planned book about his time with them led to the tense exchange.
Salaam claims he asked Will directly if the actor had heard his wife’s alleged threat. According to the filing, Will replied, “You heard what my wife said.” Salaam says those words demonstrated that Will supported Jada during the call and did not question her warning. The alleged threat remains a claim in Salaam’s court filing.
Salaam says he told Will and Jada in October 2021 not to contact him again. He claims Duane Martin called him in March 2022, after Will slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards. According to Salaam, Martin asked him to help clean up the public relations fallout from the widely discussed Oscars incident. Salaam says he refused to get involved or help with the situation.
Salaam says he took Jada’s alleged words seriously because of the couple’s wealth and influence. He claims their power and public standing made the threat especially concerning to him. The allegations form part of his lawsuit against Jada, but the filing does not prove that the threat occurred. His account puts Will’s reported response at the center of the dispute over the planned memoir.
