Taylor Swift has once again become the target of backlash. Reports emerged that 11 semi-trucks of her wedding decor were allegedly burned. The Grammy winner tied the knot with NFL star Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden in early July. The nuptials took place almost a year after the duo announced their engagement on social media.
Critics call out reports of Taylor Swift’s team burning wedding decor
An October 27 Daily Mail report claimed that the decor from Taylor Swift’s lavish wedding was burned to the ground. She and Kelce had reportedly turned the venue into a forest wonderland with custom decor worth millions of dollars. The setup allegedly included Colosseum-like walls, fake trees, forest-print fabrics, a 35-foot faux greenhouse, and a peach-colored tent for games.
Daily Mail reported that hours after the star-studded celebration ended, the crew packed every last piece of decor and transported it out of New York. While the exact location is unknown, sources have alleged that they burned all of it in Pennsylvania.
The singer’s team reportedly ordered the “dispose” of the decorations. A source told the outlet, “They didn’t want people to steal it and then auction it or sell it so they just burned it all.” They also claimed that Swift did not give any such direct instruction. “The fact that no one has relics of it and it all had to get burned and properly disposed of is kind of crazy,” they added.
The news has drawn criticism from many (via The Comeback). Teddy Brown, a senior reporter at CNN, wrote, “Middle Ages thesis continues to be vindicated. They were worried people would steal and covet wedding flotsam as if it had divine properties.” A staff writer at Resident Advisor wrote, “she was so excited to emit carbon,” while the co-host of the Eating for Free podcast said, “queen of fossil fuels and climate disaster.
