Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Titles Can’t Simply Be Taken Away — Former Royal Aide

A former aide to the royal family claims that removing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s titles isn’t simple. This comes as the Sussexes remain reaffirmed as non-working royals following King Charles’ clarification. The letter was issued by the Lord Chamberlain to top government officials, military chiefs, and Lord Lieutenants following the couple’s return to the UK.

Former Royal press secretary reveals why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal titles can’t be removed

A former royal press secretary has explained that Prince Harry will always be a prince. Hence, removing the Sussex titles would not prevent Meghan Markle from being known as Princess.

On the October 26 episode of Royals Unscripted, host Emily Ferguson asked former Buckingham Palace press secretary Dickie Arbiter about the royal titles. And according to him, the As Ever founder could still be known as Princess Harry of Wales.

Arbiter noted, “As far as taking titles away from Harry and Meghan, well, you can’t really take the title prince away because he hasn’t done anything wrong. He’s just rubbed the family the wrong way, and that’s a private matter. He was born a prince, and he’ll die a prince. If you take the dukedom away, then where does that leave Meghan? That makes Meghan, in practice, Princess Harry of Wales.”

Meghan reinforced this on the second season of With Love, Meghan, where she corrected guest Mindy Kaling. The Duchess claimed that she now goes by Sussex, not Markle. Although no longer working royals and not using their HRH styles, the couple have retained their Sussex titles.

The former palace staffer’s remarks follow Harry and Meghan’s recent appearance in Nottingham. The non-working royals were reportedly truly pleased with their visit earlier this month. An estimated 150 to 200 people turned out to welcome them warmly. It was their first engagement of the day at the city’s Community Recording Studio. The Sussexes greeted people with handshakes and hugs, stopped for selfies, and accepted flowers and small gifts from well-wishers of all ages.
