From Donald Trump’s fixation on backsides to JD Vance’s awkward defense, things got weird on the campaign trail. The vice president attempted to normalize Trump’s comments about Nicki Minaj and Sen. Jon Husted at a Montana rally.
JD Vance defends Donald Trump’s comment about Nicki Minaj
Vice President JD Vance addressed President Donald Trump’s comments about Nicki Minaj’s body during a Monday rally in Belgrade, Montana, Newsweek reported. Trump had complimented the posteriors of both Sen. Jon Husted and Minaj at a Sunday rally in Port Huron, Michigan. Vance attempted to frame the remarks as a sign of confidence rather than something unusual.
Vance told the crowd that Rep. Ryan Zinke had “complimented my beautiful blue eyes earlier today.” He added, “I was very excited about that.” The vice president then pivoted to a broader defense of the administration’s masculinity.
“We’re self-confident in the Trump-Vance administration,” Vance said. He continued by acknowledging Trump’s recent pattern of such remarks directly. “The president’s been noticing a lot about the physiques of everybody lately,” Vance told attendees at the rally.
Trump had made the comments about Minaj during the Michigan rally on Sunday. “By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before, Nicki Minaj,” Trump told the crowd, according to CNN. He asked Minaj to stand and then added, “I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted.” Minaj had traveled on Air Force One to attend the event.
Trump’s remarks came after weeks of similar comments about Husted’s physique. He had previously described examining the Ohio senator’s body and called him “a pile of muscle.” Trump spent nearly 10 minutes at the Michigan rally defending those earlier comments, Roll Call reported.
Vance was in Montana to rally support for House candidate Aaron Flint and Senate candidate Kurt Alme. The midterm elections are scheduled for November 3. The vice president’s defense drew mockery on social media, with critics accusing him of trying to normalize the president’s fixation.
