Princess Diana’s sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, share a close bond with Prince William and Prince Harry. But as the brothers continue to navigate their reported rift, their aunts reportedly have no plans to push them toward reconciliation.
Prince Harry and Prince William’s Aunts Won’t Force the Brothers to Talk, per Source
According to OK! Magazine, a family source described Sarah and Jane as being in a unique position because their relationships with the brothers exist outside the royal family’s formal structure. “Sarah and Jane are in an extraordinarily unusual position in all of this because their relationship with William and Harry exists outside the machinery of the royal family,” the insider explained.
The sisters have reportedly maintained relationships with both nephews without taking sides in their dispute. However, they recognize that family ties alone cannot resolve years of tension between the brothers. “Sarah and Jane understand perfectly well that two grown men with years of grievances cannot be ordered into a room by their aunts and told to make up,” the source said.
Their shared history with Diana could also make Sarah and Jane valuable if the brothers ever decide to reconcile. As the source explained, “They offer somewhere emotionally neutral for the brothers to meet – not Buckingham Palace, not California…” As Diana’s sisters, they represent the Spencer side of the family and share a history with William and Harry that could help provide common ground.
However, both brothers would need to be willing to meet and address their differences honestly. For now, Sarah and Jane are reportedly taking a patient approach, remaining available to both nephews without forcing a reconciliation.
As the insider put it, “They cannot create the desire for reconciliation that has to come from the brothers. But if William and Harry ever reach that point, Sarah and Jane may prove to be two of the safest people they have left to help them find their way back to each other.” For now, reconciliation remains a decision only William and Harry can make.
