Wendy and Eddie Osefo could face a major change to Eddie’s legal team shortly before their joint criminal trial.
An insider claimed Eddie Osefo’s attorney, Joe Murtha, planned to join the Carroll County prosecutor’s office in January. The reported move could come during the same month that the Real Housewives of Potomac couple’s trial begins.
An insider says Wendy and Eddie Osefo’s attorney could join the prosecutor’s office just as the trial is set to begin
“The incoming state’s attorney is supposed to be bringing Joe into the Carroll County District Attorney’s office,” the insider claimed.
The source said Murtha’s career change would take effect in January. Wendy and Eddie’s joint jury trial is scheduled to start on January 25.
The insider argued that the timing could complicate an already complex case. However, the supplied source did not confirm how Murtha’s reported move would affect Eddie’s representation.
Murtha previously handled several prominent cases. He represented Linda Tripp after authorities accused her of illegally recording conversations with Monica Lewinsky. Prosecutors dropped those charges in 2000.
As per The U.S. Sun, Wendy and Eddie currently face multiple charges connected to an alleged insurance fraud case.
Maryland prosecutors accused the couple of staging a burglary at their home in 2024. Wendy and Eddie reported that someone had broken into the property while they were vacationing in Jamaica with their three children.
They told police that someone had ransacked their bedroom and closets. They also reported missing designer handbags and jewelry.
The couple later submitted insurance claims involving the reported losses.
State documents accused Eddie of submitting overlapping claims for some of the same items. Investigators also alleged that he failed to disclose another insurance claim when companies questioned him about additional coverage.
One sworn statement listed $2,500 in building losses and about $450,000 in personal property losses.
Authorities later reviewed the couple’s emails. In one April 2024 message, Eddie allegedly asked Wendy whether they could add more high-value items to the inventory. He wrote that he wanted the total to exceed $423,000, which he described as their policy maximum.
Investigators also claimed they found at least 15 items at the couple’s home that they had previously reported stolen. Authorities said Wendy’s diamond anniversary band was among them.
Both Wendy and Eddie face charges that include conspiracy, insurance fraud and providing false or misleading information. Wendy also faces an additional charge for allegedly making a false statement to an officer.
They each posted $50,000 bail following their arrests.
