Royal watchers were surprised as details from Charles Spencer’s deeply personal account of Princess Diana emerged before the book’s release. “Swan Song: Diana My Sister” is set to be released on September 22. The book has already drawn international attention because of its claims about Diana’s life and what happened after her death.
According to a source who spoke to Woman’s Day, Prince Harry had been aware of the project and has discussed its contents with Spencer. The insider said Harry has “been in the loop” about the memoir and is “incredibly proud” of his uncle. “[Harry] believes it’s an extremely courageous, worthy mission that should be applauded and ultimately cherished,” the insider said.
According to the insider, Harry knew that some of Spencer’s claims could be “very difficult and embarrassing” for King Charles and Queen Camilla. The memoir’s biggest controversy so far involved an alleged comment that then-Prince Charles made following Diana’s death in 1997.
Spencer claimed Charles told him, “We’ll forget her soon enough.” The alleged exchange reportedly took place during a disagreement over Diana’s funeral and whether her young sons, Prince William and Harry, should walk behind her coffin.
The source went further and claimed that Harry had complete confidence in his uncle’s account. “He has no doubt it’s all accurate and that this will serve as the definitive memoir or biography of her extraordinary life,” the insider said. According to the source, Harry and Spencer have spoken extensively about the book’s material.
