However, according to several other reports, Markle was added to a parents’ group on WhatsApp. Her number was seemingly leaked, and that reportedly caused the Sussexes to make the big decision.
Expert reveals Meghan Markle’s stance on her phone number
Brand expert and former friend of Meghan Markle, Nick Ede, was conscious about giving her phone number, even before Archie and Lilibet’s UK-school controversy. Ede revealed to Cafe Casino that he remembers Markle as someone who was warm and amiable but unwilling to share her phone number. Ede explained that the Duchess of Sussex was “always wary of people having her number.”
He noted that, as an actress and Hollywood star, she was skeptical about who could have access to her. Ede added that this was before her relationship with Prince Harry and the global fame she attained through their marriage.
The brand expert divulged that, at the time, he would communicate with the Suits star directly, and it didn’t feel like some “extraordinary privilege.” “Of course, I would imagine her relationship with her personal phone and privacy is very different today,” Ede added. As per The Sun, the Sussexes’ security team raised an alarm after Markle’s phone number was leaked from her children’s school WhatsApp group.
The WhatsApp group, named Year 3, had one parent writing: “Welcome to Meghan who has Archie joining tomo.” The Duchess of Sussex replied: “Hi moms! Thanks for the warm welcome. So happy to be a part of this community xx.” A screenshot of this chat has gone viral on the internet, seemingly forcing Archie and Lilibet to leave their school.
The Sussexes’ spokesperson cited heavy traffic and security concerns as the main reasons for them withdrawing their kids from the UK-based school abruptly. In fact, Ede also pointed out that he could instantly recognise Markle’s friendly tone from the message in the reported group chat. This also includes using a heart emoji and “xx,” which is her signature style.
