Lauren Boebert asked a judge to show leniency toward her son Tyler Boebert during his sentencing hearing in an identity theft case.
The Colorado congresswoman acknowledged that Tyler had already received a second chance through a deferred sentence but later faced separate legal trouble. She urged the court to impose consequences without damaging his ability to work and raise his son.
Tyler Boebert received a deferred sentence before running into separate legal trouble
Lauren addressed the judge as Tyler’s mother and as a grandmother to his child.
“He’s not a bad kid, he’s not a bad man,” she said.
She acknowledged that Tyler had failed to stay out of trouble after receiving a deferred sentence. He later pleaded guilty in a separate child abuse case.
As per TMZ, Lauren asked the judge to consider the progress Tyler had made. She said he accepted responsibility, completed a court-ordered parenting class, and worked to change the people around him.
Tyler also spoke during the sentencing hearing.
He apologized to the victims, his family and the community. Tyler admitted that his actions temporarily benefited him while leaving other people with consequences they did not deserve.
Prosecutors criticized what they described as Tyler’s lack of accountability and immaturity. They also noted that he tested positive for marijuana during his pre-sentence investigation.
However, prosecutors did not seek a prison sentence. They supported keeping him on probation.
Tyler had pleaded guilty in October 2024 to one count of attempting to commit identity theft. Prosecutors alleged that he stole credit cards and used them to make purchases.
A judge initially gave him a deferred sentence in that case.
At Thursday’s hearing, the judge sentenced Tyler to 20 days in jail and two years of supervised probation. The court could allow him to serve the jail time with work release.
The sentence would run concurrently with his separate child abuse case.
The judge also ordered Tyler to complete a life skills class and avoid alcohol, drugs and marijuana.
Lauren’s request did not prevent Tyler from receiving jail time, but the court stopped short of imposing a prison sentence.
