The actress discussed the experience in a new People interview. Charlie’s Angels will celebrate its 50th anniversary on September 22. Smith marked the milestone by sharing stories from her new memoir. She also opened up about her former co-stars and life behind the scenes.

Smith recalled working with Tanya Roberts during the show’s later seasons. Roberts joined the series after Shelley Hack left the cast. She played Julie Rogers during the show’s fifth season.

According to Smith’s memoir, Roberts had an open marriage. She also wrote that Roberts was open about her relationships. Smith and Roberts were not shy about discussing her sexuality.

During the flight to Hawaii, Roberts made Smith an unexpected offer. She asked Smith to join her and her husband Barry Roberts, for a threesome. Smith declined the proposition.

Despite declining, Smith viewed Roberts’ openness positively. She described her honesty about her sexuality as “brave and self-aware.” Roberts died in 2021 at the age of 65.

Roberts was not only Charlie’s Angels costar, but Smith also discussed. She also remembered working with Farrah Fawcett and Kate Jackson. The trio originally starred together when the series premiered in 1976.

Smith said their friendship remained strong despite the show’s pressures. “After the applause, the friendship is still there,” she said. She also described their bond as a strong “sisterhood.”

Smith revealed other behind-the-scenes details in her memoir. She wrote that cocaine became increasingly common during the show’s final season. Smith said she spent more time in her motor home as drug use increased.

“I’ve never used cocaine, Smith wrote, adding that she “never will.” She said she watched the drug negatively affect people around her. Smith ultimately knew the fifth season would be her final one.

Now, Smith is looking back on the series five decades later. Her memoir, I Once Knew a Guy Named Charlie, explores those experiences. The book offers a candid look at her years as Kelly Grant.
