The hit Israeli thriller series Fauda Season 5 has landed on Netflix today, nearly four years after the fourth season’s finale aired. The new season sends Doron Kavillio straight into a dangerous cover operation with old wounds still unhealed.
Lead star Lior Raz returns as former Mista’arvim commander Doron Kavillio. Directed by Omri Givon and written by Omni Snehar, it brings back Zada-Daniel, Doron Ben-David, Bian Anteer, and Itzik Cohen. French actress Mélanie Laurent joins the ensemble as Anne, and Hakim Djaziri as Saeed. The eleven-episode season was filmed across Israel and Hungary.
Raz and co-creator Avi Issacharoff scrapped their original fifth season’s script after the October 7 attacks. Instead, they rewrote the story focusing on the events of that conflict. Speaking on X, Issacharoff shared his hope that the updated season would “bring to every point in the world the story of our personal and national trauma.”
Why Doron’s latest assignment becomes more personal than ever
Season 5 takes place two years after the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The narrative takes a deeply personal turn when Doron’s old friend Eli, played by Yaakov Zada-Daniel, and a Bedouin tracker named Salem (Bian Anteer) pursue a Hamas operative linked to the attacks.
The pair travel to Marseille on an unsanctioned mission to target the militant responsible for killing their relatives. Their rogue revenge attempt quickly forces military leadership to intervene.
Doron and Steve (Doron Ben-David) are sent to Marseille to stop them. However, their mission soon forces them to confront the system they once served. As they attempt to bring their friends back, Doron is drawn into a dangerous deep-cover operation across Europe. Already struggling to process his trauma, he is forced back into action by circumstances beyond his control. His journey toward healing becomes an important part of his story.
All previous four seasons hold a 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fauda Season 5 is now streaming globally on Netflix.
