Some criminals just can’t wait to go back to jail. A man in Texas was released from the Pearland City Jail in the morning, only for him to jack a car about an hour later at a gas station that was one mile away. Within a few hours, detectives tracked the man down and took him right back to a cell.
Suspect was wearing the same outfit he had when he was released from jail
On August 25 at around 9:03 a.m. Helvin Luis Alvarado Pagan was set free from jail but got caught stealing a car at a Chevron gas station, according to a post by the Pearland Police Department on its official Facebook page.
Officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft in progress at approximately 10:17 a.m. when Pagan had allegedly stolen a car while the complainant was putting air into its tires. The man was caught on security camera footage wearing red shorts and a gray Jordan T-shirt and driving away in the vehicle. A crime analyst easily identified Pagan by matching the suspect’s clothing to his booking outfit.
With assistance from Flock cameras (as controversial as they are), officers and detectives caught Pagan driving the vehicle in Houston. Detectives spotted the car near Howard Drive and tried to catch up with the vehicle, but Pagan managed to escape after investigators observed him speeding and running a red light.
However, they checked several apartment complexes nearby and eventually found Pagan, who was still carrying a plastic bag that had all his belongings. He was taken into custody while police recovered the keys of the stolen vehicle.
Pagan was taken back to the Pearland City Jail. He faces two felony charges of a theft of a firearm and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. (The post does not share how a firearm was involved, though it might have been in the stolen car at the time.)
All told, it took “less than two hours of the original theft” for the man to find himself behind bars yet again.
