Miley Cyrus Ditches Famous Last Name in Cryptic New Era Move

Miley Cyrus appears to have started a new chapter. The singer recently made a noticeable change across her social media accounts. She also shared striking new photos with a simple message for fans. The move comes as Miley prepares for another era in her music career.

Miley appears to be signaling a fresh chapter with her social media change

On Aug. 31, Miley dropped “Cyrus” from her social media handles and began using only “Miley.” She also shared two red-and-black photos on Instagram. The picture had a simple caption that read “MILEY.” The singer did not give a reason for the change or state what made it happen.

The social media update comes one month after Miley signed with Atlantic Records. Prior to this, she had been with Sony Music’s Columbia Records for the past five years. Columbia has dropped her albums Endless Summer Vacation in 2023 and Something Beautiful in 2025. Endless Summer Vacation featured “Flowers,” which earned Miley her first Grammys for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance in 2024.

Before joining Columbia, Miley released several albums through Sony’s RCA Records. The projects were Bangerz, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, Younger Now and Plastic Hearts. She also teased her tenth studio album last month. The singer told Wonderland that the record will explore a “love story.”

“This album is a love story, but love stories are never one-dimensional,” Miley told actress Daryl Hannah in her Wonderland interview. She said the project has “a romantic thread” as it is a reflection of her current life. Miley, who is engaged to musician Maxx Morando, said the record feels meaningful because the feeling has stayed with her through several eras. She added that “a peaceful kind of love” has become a theme across her last three records.
