Man on E-Bike Flips Over Handlebars During Chase, Then Cops Find Him Carrying Something Dangerous

What was meant to be a routine traffic stop of an e-bike rider led to a more serious incident. Officers from the Denver Police Department were on patrol when they caught a man riding an e-bike on the sidewalk. But when they tried to stop the rider, he strangely fled. The chase was short-lived, though, when he made an embarrassing crash straight into a curb.

Officers discover E-bike rider had a ghost gun

On August 5, officers from the Denver Police District 3 Anti-Crime Team was patrolling a neighborhood in Baker when they spotted an unnamed man riding his e-bike on a sidewalk on W. Alameda Avenue, according to a post from the Denver Police Department on its official Facebook page. In Denver, e-bikes are not allowed to be driven on public sidewalks.

However, instead of possibly getting off with a simple warning, the man rode away quickly when police attempted to stop him. He cut through the parking lot of a gas station before suddenly striking a curb. That “caused him to flip over the handlebars and crash onto the ground.”

Even after the accident, the man attempted to walk away, but the officers swiftly caught up with him and restrained him after a short struggle. The rider was medically cleared at the scene and did not suffer any injuries due to the crash.

Upon further investigation, police discovered that the suspect was a previously convicted felon and had a ghost gun in his possession. Ghost guns do not have official serial numbers and are usually 3-D printed. While laws governing ghost guns can differ across the United States, Denver prohibits the 3-D printing of a potentially functional firearm.

A such, the suspect was arrested for investigation of possession of a weapon by a previous offender. That said, the police department reminds readers that he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
