22-Year-Old Woman Arrested After Trying to Bribe Cop to Get Out of Speeding Ticket

It’s never a good idea to try bribing an officer unless you want to spend a night in jail and possible prison time. A female driver in Idaho was pulled over for speeding after she was caught going more than twice the speed limit. During the traffic stop, however, she tried to get out of receiving a ticket by trying to pay off the cop. While she didn’t offer a lot of money, the stunt still got her booked in jail.

Female driver faces up to 15 years in prison

On August 7 at approximately 11:30 p.m., an officer from the Idaho Falls Police Department stopped a 2015 Honda Fit after the car was caught going 90 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone according to the officer’s radar, based on a report by East Idaho News.

The driver, 22-year-old Micah Praise McMurphy, was stopped near Carol Avenue, though she was going fast enough to strike the curb, according to the police booking affidavit. The officer said that he smelled burning rubber and saw smoke coming from the tires.

McMurphy was ordered out of the vehicle and spoke with the officer who asked her why she was speeding and driving recklessly. She denied that she was speeding and told the officer that she could give him $100 to let her off. The cop asked McMurphy whether she was offering a bribe, and acting coy, she said no, but that she could.

However, the officer took the matter seriously and believed that she was not joking. That led McMurphy to be arrested and booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

She has been charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless driving and a felony count of bribery of a municipal or county officer. Together, she faces at possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison. She is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on August 21.
