Just a reminder that running through a red light is good way to get into a car crash. Video has captured a red vehicle getting hit at an intersection and rolling over twice in footage released by police from Redmond, Washington. Watching the video the first time might make you think the driver of the red car is at fault, but upon closer examination, the crash was caused by another driver who ignored a red light.
Yet another reminder to never run through a red light
On August 6 at around 5:20 p.m., officers responded to a rollover crash on Redmond Way that was captured on video from a dashcam, as shown in a post by the Redmond WA Police on its official Facebook page.
Footage sees a red vehicle having the right of way as it drives down the road. Then a silver car, which looks like a Dodge Dorango, fails to stop at a red light. It makes a right turn into the same lane as the red vehicle, which tries to avoid the crash by moving to the lane to its left, but it’s too late.
The silver SUV collides with the red car, which tumbles and flips over twice into oncoming traffic. Its windows shatter as it rolls over and lands upright on the other side of the street. The driver of the silver car, knowing they are at fault for the accident, comes to a halt.
Miraculously, police say that no one was seriously injured during the crash. Still, the post reminds drivers to follow basic traffic laws, wear a seatbelt, and remain focused while behind the wheel.
One commenter asked how the driver of the SUV could “not see all the incoming traffic as it was turning.” Police responded, “Excellent question! It’s a good reminder that just because turning right on red is legal, it isn’t always safe.”
Another user, though, said that this is a frequent problem in the city: “For me, some of the worst drivers, drive in Redmond – turn on RED in most intersections, stop traffic lanes to change lanes, just overall poor driving skills. Glad RPD got that on camera, but that’s ONE out of many incidents throughout town.”
