Bizarre Crash Leaves 7 Children Injured, 1 Man Dead, After Underage Driver Flips Car

A tragic car accident in Maryland has left one man dead and seven children between the ages of 12 and 15 injured. On the morning of August 4, a white Kia collided with a blue Toyota at an intersection and caused the Kia to flip over onto the side of the road. The circumstances behind the deadly crash are unusual, as police say that the Kia was stolen and that every rider in the vehicle was underage.

Everyone in white Kia was underage during accident

The violent crash occurred at around 5:25 a.m. at the intersection of Clopper Road and Great Seneca Highway in Germantown, Maryland, according to NBC Washington.

Earlier that morning, police had received a report of a person driving erratically in the area. But by the time they arrived, the crash between the white Kia Optima and blue Toyota Matrix had occurred. Five ambulances, five medic units, and four engines rushed to the scene, and two people trapped inside one of the vehicles were rescued.

The unnamed man driving the Toyota was pronounced on the scene, while all seven children in the Kia were transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition with “injuries of varying severity.”

Police have not released the age or name of the driver in the Kia, nor how fast the underage driver was driving during the accident.

What is strange about the accident is that none of the teenagers in the car were of legal driving age. Some of them were not secure in their seats, with a few sitting on each others’ lap. The white Kia was reported stolen hours after the crash occurred, but it’s unclear how it was stolen in the first place.

Shiera Goff from Montgomery County police reminded parents to check on their children: “At this age, they’re not supposed to be driving. You do not have a license at the age of 15. Right now, I would say, parents, just make sure you know where your children are. This happened at 5 o’clock in the morning.”
