Police Catch Seven Supercars Turning a Highway into a Race Track

Like a scene out of a Fast and Furious movie, seven supercar drivers tried turning a major highway in Colorado into their personal race track. Unfortunately for them, they weren’t fast enough to outrun the law, and all of them were caught speeding and brought to a halt. However, despite the fact that the drivers will need to pay over a thousand dollars in fines, several commenters think that their punishment might as well as be a slap on the wrist.

Commenters think $1,680 fine is too low for supercar drivers

Police caught seven supercars speeding down Highway 103, a road that is frequently used by high-speed drivers, that were going 85 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone, according to a post from the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office on its official Facebook page.

After receiving an “advanced tip,” deputies from Clear Creek County and officers from Idaho Springs decided to trap the group of supercars. One of the deputy’s unmarked vehicles began tailing the vehicles and fell in behind them at Echo Lake. Meanwhile, other patrol vehicles were already waiting for the group to arrive near Idaho Springs.

According to the post, the group was trying to play a dangerous game called “Follow the Leader.” After pulling them over, they were fined for $1,680 and the driver of the lead car received a court summons. He has been charged for reckless driving, an exhibition of speed, and going 40 mph over the posted limit.

That said, several commenters on Facebook shrugged their shoulders at the total of the fines. One wrote, “I don’t think guys that drive ‘Supercars’ are worried about a $1,680 fine or ticket…” Another agreed, “1 million+ worth of cars received a total of 1.6k in tickets.”

Still, one user praised the police for stopping the supercars before something more dangerous happened: “Road racing is not a victimless pursuit, it is a death sport that takes lives wherever it occurs.”
