The 85-year-old lifestyle icon discussed the matter in the August 5 issue of People. During the interview, she was asked whether her ex-husband reached out after the documentary Martha explored their difficult divorce. She responded by saying, “Only legally, to remind me of divorce settlement statements, which I had never read. I mean, who cared after two years of arguing about a settlement? I still haven’t read it. He’s a jerk.”
According to Page Six, Martha and Andy got married in 1961 before welcoming their only daughter, Alexis, in 1965. The couple separated in 1987 after nearly 30 years of marriage, with Andy allegedly initiating the separation.
She discussed their “messy” divorce in her Netflix documentary, which premiered on October 30, 2024. “He was throwing me away. I was 40 years old. I was gorgeous. I was a desirous woman, but he was treating me like a castaway,” she said. She also claimed that she was treated badly during the marriage, while acknowledging that she also played a part in their difficult dynamic.
She admitted that infidelity occurred on both sides during their marriage. Martha said she remained committed to monogamy during her marriage, explaining that she viewed it as admirable. She added that, ultimately, it was not enough to save the relationship. Following that, she recalled meeting a man during a cathedral visit without her ex-husband, describing the experience as deeply emotional. She also admitted to having a brief affair with an Irish man early in her marriage while working as a stockbroker in New York.
Following the documentary’s release, Andy and his third wife, Shyla Nelson Stewart, criticized Martha for publicly revisiting their marriage. Shyla described Andy’s marriage to Martha as difficult and said he had moved forward. However, she also accused Martha of revisiting their past, reports E! News.
Andy and Shyla tied the knot in 2016 after his second marriage to Robyn Fairclough in 1993. As per OK! Magazine, following her divorce, Martha was romantically linked to Anthony Hopkins, Mort Zuckerman, and Charles Simonyi. She and Simonyi dated for nearly 15 years before ending their relationship in 2008.
