Latest rumor suggests a familiar DCEU superhero may return in Man of Tomorrow. The upcoming DCU movie from James Gunn is currently in production. It will bring back David Corenswet, who will reprise his role of Clark Kent or Superman from 2025’s blockbuster film.
What is the new Man of Tomorrow casting rumor?
According to reliable insider Daniel Richtman on X, Man of Tomorrow may bring back Xolo Maridueña, who played Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle) in the 2023 movie.
Blue Beetle was part of the DCEU before James Gunn and Peter Safran became heads of DC Studios for the new DCU cinematic universe.
While Richtman has a track record of sharing accurate updates, fans should take these rumors with a grain of salt until there is official confirmation from DC Studios.
The rumor aligns with a previous Blue Beetle update about the character’s potential DCU future. Earlier this year, Safran was asked about Jaime Reyes’ comeback despite the character’s debut live-action movie being connected to the DCEU.
“I don’t think that chapter has been closed. I’ve had friendly conversations with Peter Safran and John Rickard. And I know James is a huge fan of Blue Beetle, and he’s said multiple times that Blue Beetle is part of the DCU,” said Safran.

Interestingly, Blue Beetle was also expected to have his own animated TV series. Teasing the project, Safran added, “I personally would love to continue Blue Beetle 2, Blue Beetle 3, work with Xolo (Maridueña) and the whole Reyes family. But we have had conversations of how we can expand the adventures of the Reyes family via animation.” At the time of writing, there’s no major update available on the TV show or its development.
When the Blue Beetle movie first came out, it earned mostly positive reactions. Currently, it holds a 78% Tomatometer score and 90% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
