One name could change everything for the DCU’s future after Man of Tomorrow. New script rumors suggest James Gunn’s Superman sequel may tease a major DC hero’s eventual debut in the franchise.
Man of Tomorrow rumored to set up The Flash’s eventual DCU arrival
Scooper James Mack claims Man of Tomorrow will reference Barry Allen, hinting at The Flash’s existence in the DCU. Mack posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the mention implies The Flash “will probably be the next step after Man of Tomorrow.” He also noted he received several script details for the James Gunn-directed sequel.
Mack further teased that the film is “making an event movie without an established Justice League in the universe.” This aligns with the film’s confirmed ensemble, which features several heroes but no formal team. The DCU has been gradually introducing its heroes across separate projects.
Warner Bros. has not officially announced a Flash film for the current DCU slate. The character previously appeared in the DCEU, portrayed by Ezra Miller in The Flash (2023). Gunn has not publicly confirmed any Flash-related plans for the franchise’s Chapter One.
Man of Tomorrow already expands the DCU’s roster significantly with new and returning characters. Aaron Pierre reprises John Stewart from Lanterns, while Xolo Maridueña returns as Blue Beetle from the DCEU. Milly Alcock also appears as Supergirl following her solo film’s 2026 release.
The sequel pits Superman and Lex Luthor against the superintelligent android Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger. Eidinger described Brainiac as “the incarnation of Satan” and the Shakespearean fool. Gunn characterized the villain as “what happens when intelligence loses all connection to humanity.”
Gunn previously stated the film is “as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie.” Nicholas Hoult returns as Luthor, now sporting the character’s iconic Warsuit for the first time in live action. The film wrapped shooting in August 2026 after approximately 93 days of production.
Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027, as part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
