James Gunn’s DCU Batman has reportedly been cast, and nobody saw this name coming. Multiple sources and scoopers are pointing to the same surprising actor for the iconic role.
Tom Brittney rumored to be cast as James Gunn’s DCU Batman
John Campea recently claimed he believes the DCU Batman has been cast. He shared on his show that multiple sources pointed to the same actor. Campea stated, “I’m not going to say it right now, but I will say this. It’s not a name I would have guessed.”
He added that he heard from someone he called “well-positioned” who verified the casting. Campea also noted he sent the name to a Hollywood producer for confirmation. He clarified he wants more certainty before officially revealing the name.
Shortly after Campea’s comments, well-known scooper MyTimeToShineHello appeared to confirm the rumor. MTTSH responded to the news on X by simply writing, “It’s true, it’s Tom.” Rumors then spread rapidly across social media, pointing to English actor Tom Brittney. DC Film News also posted Campea’s comments on X, where the post gained over 782,000 views.
Brittney is a 35-year-old English actor born in Gravesend, Kent. He trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. He is best known for playing Reverend Will Davenport in the ITV series Grantchester from 2019 to 2024.
Brittney also has notable film credits, including Greyhound alongside Tom Hanks and Back in Action. He currently has two films in development, Fall 2: Deadpoint and Black Box. In 2023, Brittney was one of three finalists for the role of Superman in James Gunn’s Superman. He competed against Nicholas Hoult and David Corenswet for that role. Corenswet ultimately landed the part.
Neither James Gunn nor Warner Bros. has officially confirmed any Batman casting. Campea himself stressed he does not want to spread misinformation without further verification. Fans will likely have to wait for an official announcement to know for certain.
