The final season of Outlander’s release date is set for next month. Adapted from the book series of the same name, the show is wrapping up the story ahead of the original author’s final book.
Outlander Season 8 begins airing on Starz in early March
Outlander’s final chapter, Season 8’s release date is Friday, March 6, 2026, on Starz. The streaming service announced the concluding season and the release date with a trailer on its YouTube channel.
The show centers on Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe), a World War II nurse who time-travels to 18th-century Scotland. There, she falls in love with Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) amid an ongoing rebellion. The cast also stars Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell, and Duncan Lacroix, among others, in prominent roles.
The series is based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel series of the same name. Currently, she has published nine novels, with the final one in the works. Gabaldon announced her final book, titled “A Blessing For A Warrior Going Out,” on her blog.
The Starz series initially followed a one-book-per-season approach, which it followed through till Season 6. For Season 7, the writers adapted books 7 and 8—A Breath of Snow and Ashes and An Echo in the Bone—while incorporating elements from book 9, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.
Although the tenth and final book has yet to be released, the show will conclude with the upcoming season. It will reportedly include the remaining part of the ninth book, along with parts of the final one. Additionally, during an interview with Radio Times in 2023, executive producer Maril Davis said they’ll “figure out a way to end” the story.
“Once again, it won’t be Diana’s ending because she’s still writing it, but it will be a satisfying ending for us, for the show. It’s sad regardless, it’s very bittersweet, but I’m really excited about it,” she emphasized.
