A recent report suggests that Ian McKellen’s Magneto might be the MVP for X-Men in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios announced his return as Magneto in March 2025. Avengers: Doomsday is slated to release in December 2026.
Magneto rumored to be the MVP in Avengers: Doomsday
Recently, renowned Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman claimed that Ian McKellen’s Magneto might have a bigger role among the other X-Men characters in Avengers: Doomsday.
Richtman took to his X (formerly Twitter) account, shared an image of McKellen’s character, and wrote, “I hear Magneto is the MVP of Avengers Doomsday.” However, as plot details regarding the movie are still under wraps, the duration and significance of Magneto’s role are still unknown to fans.
Moreover, the veteran actor has not commented on his role in Avengers: Doomsday. In April 2025, actor Simu Liu, who will return as Shang-Chi in the movie, shared how he felt to share the screen with McKellen and Patrick Stewart. He said on the Jennifer Hudson Show that he encountered McKellen and Stewart on set, describing them as “two of the greatest actors to ever walk the face of the Earth,” and stated that the experience “kind of blew my mind a little bit. We are so excited to get back to work.”
Liu further added that the movie is highly secretive, which is why he can’t spill any details regarding it. However, he conveyed that Avengers: Doomsday “is going to be an amazing big movie.”
Meanwhile, fans got a first look at McKellen’s Magneto and Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier in a recently released teaser of Avengers: Doomsday. It also gave a first glimpse at James Marsden’s Cyclops.
