Weight Watchers Send Women “Mood Lights” to Help Hide Their Bodies During Sex

Weight Watchers’ PR department has made a pretty significant error when it comes to shilling their products, after sending female journalists a “mood light” that is essentially targeted towards their presumed self-consciousness.

The “mood light,” which from the looks of things is basically just a dim light bulb, has reportedly made its way to a few women working for various publications, in an effort to promote the weight loss company’s products. However, as has been been pointed out by a few of the women who received the bulb, the blurb on the packaging describing the company’s intentions for sending them out is questionable to say the least.

The packaging, as tweeted by Guardian editor Bridie Jabour, can be viewed below:

Here’s the text in full:

“Lets be honest for a minute, sex is pretty. damn. fantastic.

But if you’ve ever felt self-conscious in the sack you’re not alone – we’ve heard that more than half of women have avoided sex because they were worried about how they look.

This globe is a ‘mood light’ designed to give you a little boost in the bedroom (a PG sex toy, if you will).

We hope it helps to start you seeing yourself in a new light – to love how you look and love how you feel.”

With this blurb, Weight Watchers is basically telling the bulb’s recipients that, as they are apparently self-conscious women, they should use this light bulb in order to conceal their bodies in the bedroom. Suffice to say, it’s an incredibly inappropriate message for the company to send to potential customers, with it claiming that it will help “give you a little boost in the bedroom” by making the user’s body less visible to their sexual partner.

Though PR departments routinely dream up curious ways to advertise their respective companies, it’s not very often that you get to witness one somehow managing to offend its entire core demographic. We doubt anyone will be putting this “PG sex toy” to good use after this, and we imagine that whoever greenlit this awful idea isn’t having the most enjoyable Friday right now.
