Lollapalooza 2013 VIDEO: Josh Hubbard of SKATERS on Debut Album, Festival Highlights

Guitarist Josh Hubbard’s desire for his fellow SKATERS bandmates is simple — he just wants to take them to a giant European music festival and heave them headlong into some Glastonbury mud.

We’re going to assume that desire only comes from a place of love, of course.

As the only Brit in the rock three-piece, we get Hubbard’s wish to indoctrinate Americans Michael Ian Cummings and Noah Rubin into a proper Euro fest event.  But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t looking forward to hitting the Lollapalooza 2013 stage for the band’s Sunday set when we sat down with him at the Bed Head Artist Retreat at Public Hotel Chicago.

Following some encouraging buzz off their 2012 EP “Schemers,” SKATERS is finishing up their debut album in New York, recording at Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady studio.

While Jimi is Jimi, the work being done there is the real star of the process, Hubbard points out.

“The energy was good, it was amazing to be in New York,” Hubbard said, “but it’s just another room.”

In fact, Hubbard had news on a major milestone in the album’s progress that he shared during our video interview above.  Big thanks to the ElevatorMag guys for being great partners during our time in Chicago.

The Bed Head Artist Retreat was also sponsored by ICING Jewelry, along with Belvedere Vodka and Peroni, who hooked up free drinks for the artists and guests.
