Oklahoma School District Pays Family $125K After Teacher Hooks Up With Student In Her Classroom

Way back in May 2015 an Oklahoma middle school teacher named Jennifer Caswell publicly admitted to hooking up with an eight-grade student who was 15-years-old at the time, which means that kid was held back at least once. Oh, and one of the sexual encounters occurred in Caswell’s own classroom. The 31-year-old was sentenced to ten years behind bars.

And now two years later that boy’s family have reeled in $125,000 thanks to a settlement that came after the boy’s father filed a lawsuit alleging that the school that Caswell worked at, Hollis Middle School, actually covered up Caswell’s crime — the boy’s father even said that the school told the kid to keep quite about the incident.

Hollis Public Schools agreed to pay $125,000 to settle claims that the school participated in covering up Caswell’s sexual abuse, said Charles Watts, an attorney for the victim’s family.

The student’s father sued Caswell, Hollis schools and several school district officials in 2015. The father claimed in a federal lawsuit that his son’s grades and extracurricular activities suffered as a result of the abuse. The student also experienced emotional distress and humiliation when his peers found out, the lawsuit stated.

In a sworn deposition, the father testified that high school Principal Marty Webb accused his son of lying and told him his son “needed to keep his mouth closed” when rumors began to spread about Caswell’s relationship with the boy.

And that was enough for the court to see it the father’s way. Caswell is still behind bars and will be eligible for parole in about six years.

Oh, and way back before the ‘Cash Me Ousside’ girl, Dr. Phil actually interviewed Caswell. Take a look at the interview below.
