Scientists Are Working On New Drug That May Cure Aging

Because who wants to be bald and old and gross?

Look, no one wants to get old, as the majority of people try everything in their power to hold on to their youth and their looks. Some go with beauty creams, some with surgery, and some attempt to sell their soul to the devil (didn’t work). But not to worry, there may be a new drug soon that will eventually stop aging. Let us explain.

Researchers at the Erasmus University Medical Centre in the Netherlands (thanks, Netherlands!) might have developed a treatment that reverses the aging process on mice. So if it works on a mouse, it’s bound to work on us, right? Hopefully. Scientists discovered that when they treated mice with a substance designed to sweep away cells that have entered a dormant state due to DNA damage, the mice had their fur regrown, their kidney function improved and they were able to run twice as far as the untreated elderly animals.

Do me next.

The research team are now planning to test out this treatment on humans with the hope of testing whether getting rid of  senescent cells could help reverse a range of age-related disorders. But in reality, we just want to keep our looks.

“Maybe when you get to 65 you’ll go every five years for your anti-senescence shot in the clinic,” Peter de Keizer, the 36-year-old scientist who led this trial states. “You’ll go for your rejuvenation shot. That I can envision when we reach that age.”

So if this treatment works on humans, we might be one step closer to not looking old and creepy. Just creepy.
