Sony Dismisses EA Access For Xbox One: “It’s Not Good Value”

Following EA‘s announcement of their new subscription game-streaming service EA Access, Sony have revealed the reason it will be exclusive to Xbox One users and not available on PlayStation 4 is because the service is not good value for the Sony customer.

“We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect,” a Sony representative told Game Informer.

According to EA, users of the service will pay a monthly fee and then have unlimited access to some of EA’s more popular titles, discounts on digital content, and access to trials of new titles before their release.

For gamers in the US, the service will cost US$4.99 per month and US$29.99 per year while Australian users will be charged a slightly higher price of $6.99 per month and $39.99 per year. At its launch, the four available titles will be Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25 and Peggle 2.

The service is only accessible to gamers with an Xbox Live account. “PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price,” continued the Sony rep.

“We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.”

EA Access is in beta now and the service does not currently have an official launch. According to EA’s announcement when it does launch, EA Access will be available in Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States.
