E3 2014: Nintendo Announces Toy Figure System Amiibo

Amiibo is a new system that allows you to purchase figures at stores and import them to your games, similar to Skylanders. However, they’ll feature Nintendo characters such as Mario and Yoshi, and will actually be compatible with Skylanders.

You’ll not only be able to import character data from a figure by touching it to the Wii U Gamepad, but you can upload information back to the figure allowing for easy transport

Amiibo will be launched alongside Super Smash Bros. later this year, and will also support Mario Kart 8 as well as several other titles.
