AMC Will Run an 88-Hour ‘The Walking Dead’ Marathon This Month

Last spring, AMC’s The Walking Dead left fans with a particularly brutal cliffhanger and potentially the death of one of the leading characters. But for anyone new to the series, or those who have fallen behind, AMC is going to be offering everyone a chance to catch up with every Walking Dead episode to date.

Via Variety, AMC has announced an 88-hour marathon of The Walking Dead that will include all 83 episodes through the first six seasons. Well, AMC calls it a “marathon,” but it’s more like a series of smaller marathons leading up to the season seven premiere on Sunday, October 23. Even the most hardcore fans of the series would have had a hard time watching it for 88-hours straight, but that would be an impressive feet!

The marathon will begin this Sunday, October 16, with the six-episode first season of The Walking Dead, and the first half of season 2. AMC is also airing a two-hour retrospective about the series on that night. The marathon will continue on Monday, October 17 at 6pm, and run intermittently throughout the week before ending with the season six finale immediately before the season premiere on October 23.

It should be interesting to see if The Walking Dead can maintain its ratings dominance, since Fear The Walking Dead has proven that the brand itself isn’t enough to attract the audience for the original series. But if the show can maintain its momentum, it could still be AMC’s go-to franchise for several years to come.
