If you haven’t watched it yet, Making A Murderer is a ten-part documentary on Netflix that makes white people all of a sudden care about people who are unlawfully imprisoned. Which is weird because it isn’t an NPR podcast. Anyway, a dude in Wisconsin named Steven Avery who was convicted in 2007 for the murder of Teresa Halbach. His nephew, Brendan Dassey, was also convicted for his role in the murder. But that’s not the worse thing that happened to Dassey. His half-brother, Brad Dassey, is a Christian rapper and he wrote a song about it. The Milwaukee Record reports:
While most people pushing for Avery and Dassey’s release have expressed their grievances in the form of online petitions, Facebook statuses, and drunken arguments with friends about a key chain, Brendan Dassey’s half brother Brad Dassey decided to utilize a longstanding vehicle for expressing social unrest to challenge the convictions: rap. On Sunday, the self-proclaimed “indie Christian rapper” released “They Didn’t Do It” on his YouTube and SoundCloud pages. The song—which the Manitowoc emcee says he made over 10 straight hours of writing and recording—claims injustice was “slammed in the face of two innocent people” before repeatedly suggesting “they didn’t do it.”
So I listened to the song. It’s not helping. It’s not helping at all tbh.
