The defence lawyers who impressed everyone with their legal prowess in the hit Netflix series Making A Murderer, are travelling to Australia for a speaking tour. Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, who represented the accused murderer Steven Avery in the documentary series, will sit down to have a chat in the major capital cities.
The tour, to give its full name: A Conversation on Making a Murderer with Attorneys Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, will begin in Perth on November 1st before hopping over to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, before heading over to Auckland.
It follows a visit from the series’ filmmakers in February this year as part of Sydney’s Spectrum Now festival.
The tour will feature the two attorneys discuss Avery’s legal cases and its broader meaning and consequences, as well as a moderated discussion about the successes and failures of the justice system. All shows will also give punters the chance to ask Strang and/or Buting their own burning questions.
Making a Murderer follows the trial of Steven Avery, who was accused of one murder and jailed, before being released from jail when DNA proved his innocence, before he was charged with murder again, in a separate case. The discrepancies in the police work and judicial procedures in both cases have caused waves of concern and conversation about the justice system in America.
