A Heated Rivalry star has been cast to lead a beloved 1979 comedy remake. The remake will also update several elements for a modern audience besides a new cast.
What beloved 1970s movie is being remade with a Heated Rivalry star?
Robbie Graham-Kuntz has been cast in a TV show remake of 1979’s Meatballs (via Deadline). The show is being made for Bell Media, which owns the Canadian streaming service Crave. The show, according to the report, is being billed as “a coming-of-age way-too late story that’s equal parts sweet and sexy”.
Meatballs was comedy actor Bill Murray’s first starring role, where he played Tripper Harrison. The original film was directed by Ivan Reitman, who went on to collaborate with Murray on other movies. Reitman directed the highly influential Ghostbusters, as well as My Super Ex-Girlfriend, No Strings Attached, and more comedies. Meatballs was a modest success that helped launch Murray’s long and storied career.
Justin Stockman, Vice President, Global Content at Bell, said, “Meatballs is one of those classic IPs that has been talked about but hard to nail down. I’m happy to say we’ve now nailed down the rights, and can bring it back and modernise it.”

Stockman added that the show will “still be racy and funny, with a great script.” As with some modern remakes, the Meatballs series will also switch some gender roles. As for why Graham-Kuntz was cast, Stockman said, “Part of the strategy is trying to look at globally-known Canadians and work with them to elevate what people think of Canadian content around the world.”
The synopsis for the original Meatballs read, “Tripper is the head counselor at a budget summer camp called Camp Northstar. In truth, he’s young at heart and only marginally more mature than the campers themselves. Tripper befriends Rudy, a loner camper who has trouble fitting in. As Tripper inspires his young charges to defeat rival Camp Mohawk in the annual Olympiad competition, Rudy plays matchmaker between Tripper and Roxanne, a female counselor at Northstar.”
Robbie G.K has also featured in Sheriff Country, Utopia Falls, Antosocial 2, and more.
The Meatballs remake currently does not have a release date. The series will debut with eight episodes.
