Setting aside their usual royal engagements, Charles and Camilla joined local volunteers in a beach-cleaning initiative. The monarchs were photographed carefully collecting litter with pitchforks as they took an active role in the community’s environmental conservation efforts.
The royal couple also posed for pictures with agile swimmers, while the Queen Consort learned more about ongoing marine and coastal conservation projects. Earlier in the day, Charles had emphasized the importance of environmental protection and tackling climate change during his inaugural keynote address at the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
The King said: “As I have consistently tried to emphasize, climate change is no longer just a terrifying prospect, but a catastrophic reality which threatens our very way of life. Nature is under constant attack and critical natural systems are collapsing. And in each of our countries, for too many people, the opportunity to fulfill their own potential lies far beyond their reach.”
Meanwhile, Charles recently made headlines after appearing visibly frustrated when he was left standing in the pouring rain without an umbrella. The King and Queen were attending celebrations marking Antigua and Barbuda’s 45th anniversary of independence at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on November 1 when a sudden downpour temporarily disrupted the event. A video of the incident subsequently went viral, attracting considerable attention online.
