Royal expert Nick Ede has revealed to SlotsLV that King Charles “deflected” negative publicity by taking it in stride and not letting the situation generate more negative headlines. Although the King appeared annoyed at not being handed an umbrella, Queen Camilla couldn’t help but chuckle at her husband’s misery. Once a little relaxed, the King too joined the Queen as they both laughed at the situation.
Ede said: “I think that he did the right thing making this situation into something lighthearted and so he deflected from a potential press and media title really well.” The royal expert explained that unlike on previous occasions when Charles did “get angry,” this time he handled the situation gracefully.
Ede cited an instance when the King was not provided a pen during his coronation and how he was seemingly angry at his staff over it. However, the expert pointed out that Charles handled the situation with a good dose of humor.
Furthermore, Ede said the King’s self-deprecating sense of humor makes him more appealing to royal fans. “He is self-deprecating, which is endearing to people and makes him far more appealing. It gives the public an insight into what he will be like behind closed doors too.”
Moreover, Ede explained that the rain incident and Charles’ desperation to get an umbrella made him seem normal and relatable in the eyes of the general public. The royal expert reasoned that most people would have an embarrassing rain encounter and would be able to relate to Charles, thus establishing a bond.
