JD Vance Lists Trump’s NYC Wins, Zohran Mamdani’s Response Is Breaking the Internet

JD Vance laid out what he sees as the Trump administration’s biggest accomplishments in NYC amid the midterm election. However, Mayor Zohran Mamdani sent back a video response instead of a rebuttal, and the reply has been spreading across the internet ever since.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani goes viral for his savage reply to JD Vance

JD Vance argued that the Trump administration has made communities safer, cut taxes for working families, and pulled in record corporate spending. He named Anthropic and IBM as examples. The White House’s New York page echoes that pitch.

It says IBM plans to invest $150 billion across the country, with New York at the center, and that Anthropic is putting $50 billion into data centers in New York and Texas. The page admits that several of its company totals cover more than New York alone.

Mamdani offered no number. He posted a video of a man stopping a subway door, then acting like he is opening it for onboarding passengers. The post seemingly is a jab along the lines of taking credit for something that is already in existence.

One person wrote, “Fun fact: This tweet is going to enter the permanent municipal archives of the City of New York since it was made from the official government account and not his personal account. It will also probably have over 1 million ‘likes’ by the morning.”

Other reactions celebrated how iconic it is, especially coming from the NYC mayor himself. “Generational tweet,” commented one. “Hello NYPD I’d like to report a murder,” joked another. A third declared, “This has to be the most brutal ratio in the history of this site.” Some users went after Vance and his party, saying Mamdani “cooked” him. Mamdani’s fans cheered him on, with one writing, “That’s my mayor (i live in New Zealand).”

The video response went viral because Mamdani has real results to point to. Governor Kathy Hochul pledged $1.2 billion to widen the 3-K program and begin free child care for two-year-olds. The Rent Guidelines Board has also approved a rent freeze for about one million stabilized apartments, already started on October 1. The mayor also launched an Office of Community Safety.
