Alfred Molina and Selton Mello join Ascent
Paramount+ has expanded the ensemble of Ascent, its upcoming thriller starring Viola Davis, with Alfred Molina and Selton Mello taking on prominent roles in the project. Deadline reports that the actors have been cast as Sebastian and Leonardo, respectively. The series is expected to move into production in Los Angeles in 2027.
Molina has been cast as Sebastian, the executive who leads Ascent Ventures. His character is now faced with the question of who will eventually take over his position. His attention has turned to the company’s senior agents as he weighs potential successors. Meanwhile, Mello will appear as Leonardo, a prominent business figure whose association with the firm has been marked by a complicated past.
Written by John Logan, the series explores the business of managing corporate scandals and crises. Davis plays Catriona, a specialist hired by major companies to contain situations that could threaten their interests. Her professional life takes a personal turn when her estranged daughter is placed in danger. This forces her to draw on the skills she has developed while working for powerful clients.
Molina and Mello join a cast that already includes Sam Heughan and Amy Madigan. Heughan plays Conal, an agent at Ascent Ventures. Madigan takes on the role of Rachel, a former executive at the firm who has a longstanding personal connection with Catriona.
Logan will lead the series as showrunner and serve as an executive producer. Michael Aguilar is also attached as an executive producer, along with Davis and Julius Tennon, for the JuVee Productions banner.
