Weapons alum Amy Madigan has joined Viola Davis on her Paramount+ drama thriller. In Ascent, Madigan will play Rachel, “a former executive at Ascent Ventures and Catriona’s lifelong mentor,” as described by the streaming giant. Catriona is played by Davis in the project. Sam Heughan is also slated to be in the show.
Most recently, Madigan received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Aunt Gladys in Weapons. The character is set to receive a prequel feature, which is simply titled Gladys. Zach Shields will pen the script with co-writer Zach Cregger.
Regarding the prequel, Madigan shared some skeptical comments, but she’s excited to be part of the project. She stated, “We know what this business is like, and nothing’s real until it is, and timing and all those things. But if it worked out, that would be great, because I trust Zach [Cregger], and he’s got a lot of wacky ideas.”
