Viola Davis is returning to television with a new Paramount+ thriller. The project is titled Ascent and is being produced by John Logan. Logan is the writer of James Bond films like Skyfall and Spectre. It will feature Davis in the lead role.
Paramount+ has ordered the series, with the American screenwriter serving as the project’s creator, executive producer and showrunner. The production is set to begin in Los Angeles in 2027.
In Ascent, Davis portrays Catriona Vailan, an elite corporate fixer whose job is to handle high-profile crisis situations for the world’s billion-dollar clients. However, the woman is forced to use her skills when her daughter is placed in danger. The series could be described as a character-driven drama that unravels in the corporate crisis management domain.
What else do we know about Viola Davis’ new Paramount+ TV show?
Michael Aguilar will executive produce the show alongside John Logan. Davis and Julius Tennon will also act as executive producers through JuVee Productions. Besides Skyfall and Spectre, Logan is also popular for Gladiator, The Aviator, and the Showtime series Penny Dreadful.

This new thriller will be added to the list of other original shows on Paramount+. Recent additions to this list include Clueless (starring Alicia Silverstone), Laird (starring Kenneth Branagh), 9/12 (starring Jeremy Strong), Fear Not (starring Anne Hathaway), and Discretion (starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning).
Ascent’s premiere date has not been revealed yet. Once the production is finished, the show will air on Paramount+.
