Chris Evans’ latest Netflix film can’t seem to catch a break on the streaming charts. The actor’s satirical thriller Sacrifice landed at No. 2 on the platform but failed to overtake the reigning No. 1 movie.
Chris Evans’ Sacrifice can’t beat Ben Affleck’s Animals on Netflix
Chris Evans’ Sacrifice debuted on Netflix on October 16, 2026, but the film has failed to claim the platform’s top spot. According to FlixPatrol’s streaming charts for October 20, 2026, Ben Affleck’s Animals holds the No. 1 position on the Netflix Top 10 Movies list in the United States. Sacrifice sits at No. 2 after four days on the chart, trailing Animals, which has spent 11 days in the rankings.
Romain Gavras directed Sacrifice, which stars Evans alongside Anya Taylor-Joy, Vincent Cassel, Sam Richardson, John Malkovich, and Salma Hayek. The film follows a movie star attempting a comeback who gets abducted by a radical group. The group believes sacrificing three people will save humanity from destruction. Anya Taylor-Joy plays Joan, a zealot leading the kidnapping mission in the action-adventure comedy-drama.
The film first premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2025. Netflix acquired U.S. and French distribution rights at the Cannes March du Film in May 2026. It received a theatrical release in Italy on August 12, 2026, before arriving on Netflix.
Critics have offered a lukewarm response to the film so far. On Rotten Tomatoes, 38% of 34 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.3 out of 10. Metacritic assigned Sacrifice a score of 48 out of 100 based on 11 critics. The review aggregator categorized the consensus as “mixed or average.” Metacritic also noted the film ranked among the lowest-rated titles from the 2025 fall festival circuit.
Despite its star-studded cast and festival pedigree, Sacrifice has not overtaken Animals on Netflix’s U.S. charts. The film has earned $453,104 at the global box office from its limited theatrical run. Principal photography took place across Greece, Bulgaria, and Iceland in late 2024.
