Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could face an ugly royal titles battle if Prince William becomes King, according to one expert. The Duchess of Sussex and her husband were warned they may respond by casting themselves as victims.
Royal Commentator Mark Dolan claimed the couple would “weaponise” any effort to remove their titles. He also predicted William might take action himself if King Charles refuses. The warning followed fresh debate over the Sussexes’ status after their UK return.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ‘will weaponize any attempts to strip them of their titles,’ per expert
As per an Express.co.uk report, Dolan discussed the Sussexes’ titles. He said Prince William was “instrumental” in the letter describing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as private citizens. According to the report, a source called the letter “a big win” for William. The source also claimed William would keep pushing until Charles agreed to remove the titles. Meanwhile, Dolan predicted Charles would not do it himself. He said, “I think William will, and it’s going to be ugly.”
However, Dolan’s sharpest warning focused on how the Sussexes might answer such a move. “Harry and Meghan will weaponise any attempts to strip them of their titles,” he claimed. He added that “their whole grift is that they are victims,” framing that as his own opinion. Dolan argued the Duke and Duchess titles still let them “pretend to be royal.” He said that was “a problem for the family” and “a problem for the monarchy.” At the same time, those remarks were commentary, not a confirmed palace plan.
For context, the debate intensified after Harry and Meghan returned to Britain. The Express also noted that relations between Harry and William remained strained after the 2020 royal exit. Prince Harry later described their fractured relationship in “Spare,” including a 2019 argument with his brother. Meanwhile, the couple was still awaiting a decision over taxpayer-funded security. Still, Dolan’s title-stripping prediction remained speculative. Neither Buckingham Palace nor Kensington Palace had publicly confirmed plans to remove the Sussexes’ titles.
