Tom Cruise seems to have broken royal protocol during his interaction with Kate Middleton at Digger’s world premiere. As Middleton and Prince William walked down the stairs alongside Cruise, he offered the princess a hand. While this could be perceived as a polite gesture, it’s generally not allowed when it comes to royals.
Tom Cruise’s kind gesture towards Kate Middleton broke royal protocol
Prince William and Kate Middleton recently attended the world premiere of Digger at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. The couple shared several moments with Cruise, David Beckham and director Alejandro González Iñárritu. As they descended the stairs, Cruise extended his hand to Catherine, who accepted it as he helped her down. The gesture prompted discussion about royal etiquette, although the Royal Family’s official website states that there are no obligatory codes of behavior when meeting a member of the Royal Family.
For the event, Middleton wore a purple Jenny Packham dress with a train. She paired it with Princess Diana’s earrings and the Queen Mother’s Amethyst Sautoir Necklace, along with a half-updo and nude makeup. This wasn’t the first time the Waleses have joined Cruise at a world premiere. It also happened back in 2022, when they attended Top Gun: Maverick’s premiere in London. At the time too, the actor escorted Middleton as they all walked the red carpet.
In a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Cruise opened up about his reunion with the royal couple. He said, “They’re just such lovely people and really very caring people. So, it’s really nice that they are here with us tonight and share this with us. I have such respect for them.” Digger is a satirical comedy about a powerful man who considers himself humanity’s savior. He embarks on a frantic mission to stop the disaster he unleashed before it destroys everything.
